The Sireeampan Boutique Resort & Spa was initially built to accommodate the business partners and family members of the owner, Mr. Sompak Trakarnkoolpunt – a real estate developer in Thailand.
As it seems, when the resort first opened, all his business partners and family members, were amazed with the infrastructure, the decor, and also with the personalized service. The many compliments and words of encouragement gave Mr. Trakarnkoolpunt the idea of making the resort available to everyone, but without changing his concept- treat every single guest, as if each was a family member. Eight months later, in August 2014, The Sireeampan Boutique Resort & Spa was awarded as one of the top 10 boutique resorts in Asia by Smart Travel Asia.
After a 40-minute drive from the Doi Suthep Meditation Center, I finally arrived at the Sireeampam Resort. The first person I encountered was a cheerful man in his mid 40’s. His big smile and high energy made a wonderful impression on me… It was nice to be transported to the lobby in a little golf cart, considering that it would have taken just a few minutes’ walk to get there.
Once in the lobby, even before I was asked for my passport, a locker key and a pair of slippers were handed to me in a nice little basket. Then one of the chefs from the resort showed up with a cool mango bello drink and a few gourmet snacks. With this kind of hospitality, how could you not feel comfortable, right?
The whole welcome routine made me feel like I had arrived at my grandma’s home. A few minutes later, while still in the lobby, I was enjoying my mango drink and absorbing the eclectic decor, Gino, the manager of the Resort, stopped by just to say hi. His friendliness and warmth put me at ease and made me feel like we knew each other from a long time ago.
When he knew that I had just completed 8 days in a meditation centre, he shared his personal experience about the meditation course he took when he was a kid. With the passport routine out of the way, I was escorted to my suite, given a quick tour of it, and then I was taken for a grand tour around the resort. I got to learn more about the exceptional services offered here.
The Nirlakam Suite
In one word, the suite was fantastic! Right away, the hardwood division between areas caught my eye. When one usually books a suite in a resort, you just get a big space demarcated by cement divisions. But here they have divided the suite with dark wood between spaces and highlighted the walls with unique, handmade pieces of art. Walking around the suite made me feel like if I was inside a modern museum.
The bed and linen were comfortable, as is expected in most 5 star resorts, but what made the suite stand out was a big bench next to the bed that was decorated with carved elephants. I really love the owner’s creativity. I would have never thought of adding a bench with elephants next to a bed. But, after seeing it, I would keep it in mind next time we decorate our place. Although we did have a private garden area, the weather did not allow us to spend much time there, but I think it would be a great spot to read a book, weather permitting.
Decorated with black tile from floor to walls, the bathroom added to the air of luxury that the exuded. Although it was not very big in size, it did have a separate shower and included a rain shower that had good water pressure. The massaging jets of the bathtub, combined with the L’occitane line of toiletries, helped us loosen up and relax at the end of each busy day.
Little Things, Big Impressions
Here is where I like to highlight the things I know most travelers appreciate to have at no extra cost:• Mini bar/snacks – Stocked daily with chocolates, nuts, beer, water, juice and sodas • Transportation around town – Upon availability • Mountain bike • Exclusive access to Mezzanine Koolpunt Golf Club • Personalized tours – They help organize tours and assign you a private guide. You only get to pay for the entrance fees, if required. • 24/7 breakfast available – Yes! you can sleep in as long as you want and you’ll never miss your complementary breakfast. • Air purifier, Apple TV and sound system – Seriously, with all of these gadgets, how can you miss home?
Breakfast – This is a meal that they went out on a limb to make it memorable! No matter where you choose to eat, they bring you all your food in a quaint picnic basket. Included with the meal is a selection of pastries, fresh juice, homemade musli and Greek yogurt, it all looked exceptional. The nine days that we stayed, we breakfasted in a different spot each time. I would highly recommend that you eat at the sala – right in front of a small waterfall and garden.
Lunch and Dinner – Although, the restaurant is located right by the entrance of the resort, we requested to have our dinner in the Piano Lounge most of the nights. The lounge has a beautiful grand piano, as the name suggests, and they have an extremely talented pianist who plays every night. I got hooked onto the piano music and loved spending my evenings there, listening to the soothing and lilting tunes that he tinkled out from the grand.
If you are celebrating a special occasion, make time to enjoy his music, you won’t regret including his show as part of your holiday/vacation. Back to the food, we were delighted with the quality of every meal. The food was delicious and every plate served up was a masterpiece. If you order their 10-course menu, it includes a good mix of Thai and International cuisine. We were lucky to enjoy listening to piano music almost every single night, quite unlike other 5 star hotels that have a pianist only on weekends or in high season.
The Surroundings and Facilities
The Sireeampam is a small boutique resort with just eleven charming suites. With an impeccable attention to detail that contributes to an intimate atmosphere. As I said before, the resort was originally built to host the family and friends of the owner, unlike most hotels and resorts, because of the infrastructure and service; this place does feel like a home away from home.
The Pool, Gym and Spa – The pool is not Olympic sized, however, it is big enough to swim enough laps to help you stay in shape. In addition to the pool, the gym has a few machines with pretty much all the programs you need to stay active. But if you are just lazy and all you want is to relax and get pampered then you have the spa, – which I unfortunately didn’t get to use. I do know their rates are very reasonable, starting at about USD 30. But off season, you have to make an appointment in advance. Since Im a very impatient girl, I did not want to wait, and instead, opted for a massage at another spa around the city center.
Karaoke – This is a favorite with many travelers. With a drink or two in hand, belting out a couple of songs is a great way to unwind.
Every single hotel we have stayed in so far has had one or two employees who always went above and beyond the call of duty to make us feel special. Here, it was the exception – everybody went above beyond. Beginning with Natcha and Pui – The Marketing and Food & Beverage Managers, respectively, both of them gave us their friendship from day one. They had no clue I was going to write a long review about their Resort. I must mention here, that Pui, who also happens to be one of the top bartenders in Thailand, put together an unforgettable evening for us when he found out we were celebrating yet another year of togetherness. That was so sweet of him! We were so touched by the warmth and thoughtfulness of this gesture.
Then we had the housekeepers, the chefs and the Piano Bar staff. They were ALL so very accommodating. I know, it is their job to make you feel good, but you can really tell when employees do things for love or just because they are paid to. But here, I could tell that every one of them genuinely loved doing what they did best – making every guest feel like family. But my best mention is the Resort manager Gino. Wow Gino! The first thing that impressed me about him was his style. Yes! He dresses up really cool. I know that this has nothing to do with Gino’s performance, but it was a real pleasure seeing the cool clothes he wore everyday. As for his role as the Resort Manager, he is a super cool and down to earth guy. I really enjoyed getting to hear all about the Sireeampam Resort, he brought every story to life, keeping me spellbound, it was almost like listening to the narration of a movie!
There’s one more person who really impressed me with her performance, that was Dew, I didn’t get a chance to get to know her very well, but she made sure we always had a driver available to take us around town. I really appreciated her taking time out to help us organize tours, specially the one to go see the long necked ladies. – This was actually one of the biggest reasons we came to Chiang Mai, and she helped me achieve my dream…
Neighborhood & Transportation
Chiang Mai is a relatively small city. You can easily reach downtown and most attractions within 20 -30 minutes by car – depending on the traffic. The best thing of all is that the resort will assign you a driver to take you around town when needed, at no extra cost. I actually loved this service. It does make a big difference when you have a driver who takes you everywhere so you don’t have to use all your neurons to work and figure out a way how to get around in a foreign city. Just make sure you let the staff know what your plans are ahead of time.
Would I Recommend this resort?
Without a doubt! If you are planning for a holiday where every little thing matters, then yes! The Sireeampam Boutique Resort & Spa is definitely your only choice! My enthusiastic recommendation comes from a first hand experience and if you have read my previous reviews, you will note that I am rather choosy in my recommendations. As far I can remember, I have never had this sort of wonderful treatment in any other resort I have stayed in so far. I just hope that I get to stay at more places like this… They are an outstanding example of what a boutique resort should be, not only in terms of infrastructure and decor, but also in terms of personalized service.
