When I first checked out the Maruba Resort Jungle Spa website, what jumped out at me was their Mood Mud Massage – a mud massage with a body painting! I was absolutely intrigued. Not one to pass up an opportunity to try something new, I simply had to do this. Hearing other guests at Maruba say how wonderful it is, only encouraged me more. So, Jonah and I signed up for one…
On checking into the spa we were asked to strip down, handed minuscule disposable underwear that just about covered our bits and pieces! Ok, we’d been married for 10 years, and this is the first time I saw Jonah in a tiny thong, and boy, he looked like a stripper. Ha ha… Well, the sight of each other in this unusual attire set us off laughing.
And it was down to the nitty gritty… yeah, literally. Kimberly and Maricela got to work, pouring mud on our bodies, working the cool muddy earth into our skins. This is certainly not your traditional idea of a massage therapy. An hour of this mud therapy before they started to paint us… Well, I’ll let you see the painting process in these pictures. They convey a better mud massage description:
The massage was rounded off with a wonderful session of washing the mud off in a large old stone tub filled with mineral water. Simply super! The result? The last time I had skin this clean and fresh and shiny was probably in the very early years of my life! Need I say more?
Would I recommend a mud massage?
Oh I certainly would! Whole muddy heartedly! In my opinion, it was also a laugh therapy. We laughed so hard looking at each other as we transformed into those creatures you see in the pictures. I have to applaud the owners of Maruba Resort Jungle Spa for their innovation in coming up with a treatment like this. This experience was one we will both remember for a long time.
